Induction Day for Potential Course Leaders

Saturday 24th November 2012, 10.30am – 5.30pm in London.

Leaders: Patrick Browning, Clinical Hypnotherapist, Petra Griffiths, Development Coordinator, Healing Journey UK and Pauline Withers-Born, Senior Counsellor at Paul’s Cancer Support Centre. All are experienced Healing  Journey co-leaders.

The Healing Journey Programme is a 5 level developmental course teaching self care skills to people affected by cancer.

The day is for people who are considering becoming a leader of the programme. The aims of the induction day are to show in detail how Levels 1 and 2 of the programme work in practice and to introduce the workings of Levels 3-5 in less detail. As a first step, leaders may want to consider offering Levels 1 and 2 of the programme. Levels 1 and 2 form a unit teaching self care skills, while more in-depth psychological and spiritual work takes place on Levels 3-5.

Four full pilots of all levels of the Healing Journey Programme have been run at Paul’s Cancer Support Centre, as well as two runs of an on-line version of levels 1 and 2.

The day will provide a brief overview of the whole Healing Journey Programme, followed by discussion of the aims and methods employed on each of the five levels, and some experiential exercises from the programme. Levels 1-4 follow the Canadian programme structure closely. Level 5 has been redesigned using approaches from transpersonal psychology, and focuses on helping people to connect with their still centre through relaxation and meditation, to listen to themselves more deeply, and to balance the usual focus in the Western world on doing and having, with a greater sense of being and relating.

We will have a brief experience of constellation work, which is used on Levels 3, 4 and 5 at our London courses in order to explore and bring healing to difficult personal issues. We will also look at the adaptations made to the programme in order to offer the courses to a diverse population in the UK. There will be an opportunity to discuss the way new leaders see the programme working in their setting.

The course fee includes the Levels 1 and 2 participant workbooks and leaders’ manuals for Levels 1 and 2, and the audios with exercises that participants practise at home (two for Level 1 and two for Level 2). We will need everyone attending the induction day to have read the workbooks and manuals in advance. We will supply the audios in downloadable format unless you request them on cds.

We are working on producing adapted UK materials for Levels 3-5 of the programme, which we will supply by email when they are ready.
