Gary Born
Course Leader (London) and member of the Healing Journey Advisory Group
I have been teaching qigong and meditation at the Paul D’Auria Cancer Support Centre since the start of 2007. Before then, I ran Tai Chi classes for five years at another cancer centre in West London. In the Healing Journey Programme, I have led sessions on meditation and mindfulness, and on qigong.
My experience started at a personal level, when I was diagnosed with lymphoma in 1995. I started taking qigong classes and found them very helpful in coping with the affects of cancer treatment. Later, I took up meditation as well and have also found this very valuable in coping with the stresses of life.
I have trained as a mindfulness teacher (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) and will be co-teaching a mindfulness class at the Centre in autumn 2009.
In my other life, I am married with two sons and am a Programme Manager at a large international computer company.
“To me, the Healing Journey is a revolutionary way of approaching the emotional aspects of dealing with cancer and learning from the experience. It takes people on a journey both through their own experience and growth, but also through a relationship with the course leaders and the other participants. It’s been valuable for me in teaching meditation on the programme, and I’m so glad that the Centre is offering it.”
