A nurse by background, I have worked in cancer care for the last twenty years, gaining my initial clinical experience at the Royal Marsden Hospital.

I was one of the first Macmillan Cancer Information Officers when, in 1995, I set up and provided a community-based information service for patients and carers at the Centre. This experience led to my writing the book Taking Control of Cancer, which was published in 2003.

My main interest is in providing the right information and support to help people with cancer and their families deal effectively with the illness.

I currently work jointly between the Centre and St George’s Hospital, developing cancer information and support services at both places.

“I’m impressed with the Healing Journey Programme because it supports people affected by cancer in many different ways. During the first two levels, participants can learn about and try out, different approaches that can help with managing the stresses that often accompany a cancer diagnosis. It is a very good way of regaining self-confidence and a feeling of being more in control of one’s life.”
