Level 4 – Singing Your Own Song: Developing Authenticity, Autonomy and Acceptance
Level 4 is 8 weeks long.
The course focuses on developing the three attributes identified in the Canadian Healing Journey Program as belonging to those who reach greater levels of healing (known as the ’3 A’s'):
Authenticity - becoming who we really are and learning to listen to a true inner voice that represents our real wishes and needs. In summary: right guidance.
Autonomy – acting on that true inner voice. In summary: making right choices (“right” in the sense of what is right for us).
Acceptance – being tolerant, loving and understanding of ourselves as well as of others. Not using energy on self condemnation or in fighting what we can’t change. In summary: right action.
Level 4 also focuses on building self esteem, resourcefulness and assertiveness, and helping participants find sources of joy.
During level 4, we also work more explicitly with the spiritual dimensions of ourselves. Each of us has an unique experience of the spiritual, which often involves aspects such as:
- a source of inner wisdom
- a much increased feeling of connection with others and with life
- having a clear sense of meaning and purpose in our life
- being in touch with an inner stillness that is deeper than our everyday experiences.
We build on the following in working with spiritual dimensions of ourselves:
1. insights from transpersonal psychology, which works from the basis that we all have a higher or deeper self, and that this provides a source of loving and compassionate wisdom and guidance.
The transpersonal perspective is about integrating the psychological aspects of ourselves with the higher or deeper levels associated with spirit and soul, so that we reach a fuller, more rounded sense of ourselves, and experience more joy and fulfilment as well as a greater acceptance of what is.
2. insights from the contemporary movement called ‘Inter-Spirituality’, as well as others, that many religious and spiritual traditions share much in common with each other in terms of spiritual experience.
